I am Professor of Computer Science at San Diego State University in the Department of Computer Science. I am also affiliated with the Concurrent Systems Laboratory, part of the Jack Baskin School of Engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The Director of that laboratory is Darrell Long, who was one of my students and now is a frequent research collaborator. My other frequent collaborator is Jehan-François Pâris of the University of Houston.

My research interests include analysis of computer systems. Previously I worked in the area of data replication. My work in studying computer reliability using the Internet has drawn significant interest.

I frequently hike the Grand Canyon. I invite you to spend some time visiting my photo gallery.
